Feb. 16, 2016: The Weight Game

February 17, 2016

Mara has been frustrated about her weight, lately. She’s about 18 pounds over what she wants to weigh. That doesn’t sound like much for a six-foot-tall person. But it helps with her passability to be able to wear certain outfits that just don’t look good on her when she has a few bulges. She feels insecure about how feminine she looks with extra weight, because it tends to fill in her waistline and give her a less feminine shape, even though hormones have given her breasts and hips. It’s easy for me. If I put on a few pounds, I just look like a woman who has…well…put on a few pounds. Even when I was overweight and had no waistline, no one questioned my gender.

So we decided to challenge ourselves: Mara’s dad is turning 90 in late March, and there will be a big celebration with friends and relatives. Mara’s challenge is to lose eight pounds by then. Mine is to lose four. We’re supporting each other in this. And we’re not going to stop there. Her next challenge is to lose the other 10 pounds by my nephew’s wedding in June. And after that, the challenge is to maintain that weight.
