Nov. 4, 2013: ENDA

November 5, 2013

So a bill called the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which protects people in the LGBT community from workplace discrimination, has passed in the U.S. Senate. But the House is unlikely to even bring it up for a vote. Here’s a great article from the Washington Post’s website, which explains ENDA: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/11/04/what-is-the-employment-non-discrimination-act-enda/.

Among the arguments given by those who oppose it is that it will hurt small businesses. But as of yet, I haven’t heard the opponents cite anything — no studies, previous cases, data, whatever — to back up that claim. I’ll keep listening and reading. But no matter what their excuses are, to me it all boils down to two words: “homophobia” and “transphobia.”
