May 27, 2013: Staying in Character

May 27, 2013

We went to a summer kick-off party yesterday. The former colleague that we met on that cruise was the hostess, along with her fiancée. So we knew very few people there. She had told her fiancé about us, and he was so accepting! Totally welcoming! We didn’t tell anyone else that Mara is trans, and while speaking with a few people, we figured they just figured we were lesbians, and that’s OK. We just didn’t feel the need to explain everything. The most important thing is that, no matter what anyone knew about us, no one batted an eyelash.

I still can’t get over how accepting people are; or it just doesn’t matter to them. Most people we know — or meet — don’t really care about gender identity. They just care about character. And Mara has the same character as she always did. So do I.
