April 10, 2013: The Name Game

April 10, 2013

The credit reporting bureaus finally got Mara’s name changed, so now we can move ahead on refinancing our house and rental property. What a hassle! For the most part, changing her name on financial documents was easy and straightforward. But it’s hard to reach the credit reporting agencies, and when you do, they don’t always get it right the first time. Only one in three did, in our case. I told Mara she’d better be sure about her name and gender change, because, if she ever decides to change back, she can handle the name change procedures on our accounts by herself. But I don’t think that will happen. She is so much happier post-transition. And so am I, because she is the same person I fell in love with nearly 20 years ago, and now she’s in integrity with who she really is.
