Feb. 17, 2013: Laughing Matters

February 17, 2013

I’m producing a live comedy/variety show called “Laughing Matters: The Absurdity of Intolerance.” It celebrates diversity while demonstrating “the absurdity of intolerance” by poking fun at stereotypes. I’ve always been pro-diversity and pro-tolerance, but Mara’s transitioning has really put me face-to-face with that issue in a way that I am now an advocate. I’m taking action, not just saying where I stand. I want to raise awareness while raising money for a diversity-related nonprofit: The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. The show focuses on all types of diversity, including racial, ethnic, economic and religious, as well as sexual orientation and gender identity.

If you’re reading this and live in southern California (or plan on visiting during the first week of March), come see the show. The lineup includes stand-up comics who have been on late-night talk shows and Comedy Central, as well as terrific musicians and emerging talent.

Here are the details:

When: March 6, 8 p.m.
Where: The Lyric Theatre, 520 N. La Brea Ave., L.A. 90036
How much: $15
