This past week, Mara and I were in the car and heard a commentary on our local NPR station about writers for TV and film, surmising whether men or women are funnier. The general consensus is that men are funnier. (I would say there’s at least one exception: Tina Fey.) The commentator said that, on one writing team for a comedy show, one of the male writers told his teammates on a Friday that, beginning Monday, he would be living full-time as female. Sure enough, on Monday morning, she showed up at work as he always had. And she was just as funny as he. The moral of the story: She was the same person he always was: same personality, same content of character.
