I’m headed to another conference this weekend. This one is in Florida, and I’ll have a rental car. So if there’s time, I told Mara that I would visit her parents, who live about a half-hour from the conference site. It depends on the schedule; it’s pretty tight. We’ll see them again over Thanksgiving week. They seem to have a whole different way of seeing me, since we came out to them. I’m getting more admiration, especially from Mara’s mom. I guess they’re impressed that I’m standing by their kid. From where I stand — I’ve known about Mara since before we started dating and have accepted her all along — the transition doesn’t seem like such a big deal, just another layer of our relationship. But it’s a much bigger deal than I had originally thought. I’m realizing that more and more. That realization isn’t changing how I feel about Mara or the level of my commitment to her. Well, actually, the commitment level from both of us to the relationship has deepened.
